Following the Kona Low storm that struck West Hawaii on March 14th, the Ocean Rider Seahorse Farm in Kona suffered significant damage when the shade canopy roof covering the seahorse and seadragon tank field was destroyed.

In June of 2026, we were able to successfully replace the Ocean Rider Seahorse Farm roof (photos below). We want to thank the Kamas Foundation and all other contributors for your generous donations, time and support. From the smallest donations to the largest, everybody’s efforts made a difference.

Thanks to the Kamas Foundation and All Who Supported Us

In response to Ocean Rider’s need, the Kamas Foundation in Hawaii generously donated $10,000 toward rebuilding the roof over the seahorse and seadragon tank field.

This contribution represented an important step toward restoring the facility after the storm damage and continuing the farm’s work in marine education, aquaculture, and conservation.

Raise the Roof Was A Success

The total cost to build the new roof was approximately $72,000, and the foundation sought supporters to help match the $10,000 gift from the Kamas Foundation and contribute toward reaching the full funding goal.

Community support succeeded in helping to ensure the continued protection of the seahorse and seadragon tank systems and allow Ocean Rider to continue its work in marine conservation, research, and public education.

Supporting Marine Conservation in Kona

Ocean Rider Seahorse Farm has long been recognized for its work in seahorse aquaculture, marine education, and conservation efforts in Hawaii. Visitors to the farm have the opportunity to learn about these unique marine species and the importance of protecting ocean ecosystems.

Support from the community plays a vital role in helping the farm continue these efforts.

Those interested in helping rebuild the roof and support the seahorses can contribute through the Seahorse Hawaii Foundation fundraising initiative.

Together, we can help “Raise the Roof” for the seahorses and ensure their continued care and conservation in Kona.
